Soulmates
In “Immortality’s End”, Tara/Tanis’s love is forever. At least this his how Tara/Tanis describes her love.
But can immortals have soulmates. Do they even have a soul? As humans we believe that souls exist because when we die, our spirit leaves our bodies to form another life in another body. In this case, Tara/Tanis never dies, her soul never leaves her body, and even when she thinks she’s dying or she’s dead she continues living. She’s lived for over 750 years.
Can someone who never dies have a soul and is she truly Kevin’s soulmate? In my book their love makes perfect sense. Let's dive into their soul a little bit more. We know Kevin has a soul. He forms different lives in different bodies, but has the same soul. How does he connect with Tara?
The answer is simple and I didn’t even think of this until now; Tara/Tanis and Kevin lived as humans. They adapted human beliefs of soulmates from humanity. Their love for each other is endless and forever because they live forever. So, does that mean the word “soul” and “mate” are separate? How do we truly know who has a soul who doesn't in this book? Tara/Tanis’s and Kevin’s connection with humanity makes it so.
I may not be making any sense right now, but my own beliefs in having a soulmate and finding a soulmate is intertwined in this story. Even though she lives to 750 years old, she still thinks human because that’s all she knows. What do you think? Do you think soulmates even exist and if so, how could they possibly find each other through time and “Immortality’s End”. If they are not soulmates, how could their love exist?
