For most of Tara’s story, her father’s existence is a mystery due to his absence. She remembers that he was not there. He is simply missing. But she wears almost no emotional weight attached to his disappearance—no anger, no longing, no grief. After years of being without him, her very first encounter with her father reveals that he is immortal as well.

This revelation raises several questions. Why does he remain hidden until the 1900s? Why does he stay hidden for the majority of Tara’s life? He could have guided her when she lived among the Apache tribe, supported her during her time in New York City, or helped her during difficult times in her future. Tara spends her life searching for meaning and purpose, yet the one person who might offer clarity chooses silence. Her father could have helped her understand not only what she is, but why she exists at all.

When Tara finally meets him, their relationship feels more instructional than intimate. He trains her in martial arts and helps enhance her telekinesis and telepathy. From Tara’s memories, love is not absent but distant and restrained. Why does their bond lack intimacy?

There is much left to share. I’ll let you read the story to find out more. Tara’s father is a critical character, because he shapes Earth’s past and its future. Because of their distant relationship, Tara is unaware of Dad’s full power. Not yet.

So why doesn’t he explain her true purpose when they meet? Is he protecting her, controlling her, or obeying hidden rules?

What do you think?
